1. Type of event
The breathtaking scenery of the EDEN District on South Africa’s Garden Route made the EDEN Duo an onforgettable event. The event take place in pristine forest and coastal areas in and around George and you will test your skills against the best of those of us that experience life as multi sport athletes.

The total distance of 150k’s will give you all the adrenalin of adventure racing, plus it’s only a weekend away from home with the start only at 04H00 on the Friday morning in George. The event will be annually hosted at Saasveld (Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University Campus in George) and the end venue at Glenwood House, George.

The Outeniqua hiking trail behind Cradock Peak in George were part of the event 5 years ago. As part of our conceravtion policy we will donate funds to clear, mark and upgrade the trail for hikers and runners. The route will take you to breathtaking destinations. The following detail will help you to understand the event;

 
     
  2009 Event will be on the same route but in a different order.  
 
A 24 hour non-stop multi-sport event that includes paddling, (20k’s in total on the lakes between Wilderness and Sedgefield), mountain biking of 2 legs (30k’s each) and on foot a coastering section of 15k’s plus kloofing and trailrunning legs.
 
 
Only pairs or relay teams of 4 can enter the event.
 
 
All the teams arrive on day 1 (29th of October), to receive race packs and to register at Eb & Flow, SAN Parks, Wilderness
 
 
Day 2 starts at 04H00 on the 30th of October at the SAASVELD swimming pool, 15km from Eb & Flow.
 
 
Day 3 culminates at 07H00 on the Sunday the 1st of November 2009 at the award ceremony.
 
 
Top teams will complete the route in 14 hours and the last teams should arrive within 24 hours.
 
 
All teams will be followed live on a big screen via television and satellite tracking managed by SPORTS Track.
 
     
  EDEN Duo Adventure Challenge, 150k’s  
     
  Run, bike and paddle with a partner over 150k’s of prestine forest, lakes and mountain trails between George and Knysna…it’s the EDEN Country of South Africa. Start 04H00 on the 31st of October at the SAASVELD Gates, George. It’s an event for mixed pairs /female pairs /male pairs  
  Registration from 16H00 on the 30th of October at Eb & Flow, SAN Parks, Wilderness.  
  Relay category (teams of 4, relay the disciplines)(R1450.00 entry fee).  
  Entrée fee, R950/pair including overnight and breakfast/pair.  
     
  1.2.1 Registration and accommodation  
 
Saasveld Gates, 04H00, Saturday the 30th of October 2009. All cars must be parked to the inside of the Saasveld Main Gates. The start is 5k’s drive from Glenwood House towards Knysna on the OLD KNYSNA Road. No parking for cars on the tar road.
 
     
  1.2.2 Orienteering  
 
The orienteering is compulsory for the OPEN Category teams to qualify for the prize money but ALL category winners will receive spot prizes. Orienteering points (5) will be pointed out as CP’s (Controll Points) along the route.
 
     
  1.2.3 Race briefing  
  Thursday the 29th at 20H00.  
     
  1.2.4 Late Entries  
  Late entries (after the 31st of August 2009), will not receive race packs but must register on Friday the 30th at the START Venue, from 03H30. No entries will be accepted after the 15th of October 2009.  
     
  1.2.5 Prize giving  
  07H00, Sunday the 1st of November 2009 at Glenwood House.  
     
  1.3 Disciplines and route (see detailed outline)  
 

Teams and pairs will mountain bike in total 60k’s, trailrun 60k’s and paddle 20k’s. All team members will do the 10k’s of kloofing in the Kaaymans River. A detailed map with race instructions will be hand out at the race registration.

You will get a map plus a punch card, and there will be checkpoints with punches for the OPEN Categories. To stand in line to win the prize money, you will need to clip all the checkpoints.The last MTB leg has some technical singletrack that will test your MTB skills. I would say that about 80% is ridable for the average mountain biker.There will be route markers, but you can choose your own route (out of bounds areas will be discussed at race briefing).

 
     
  3. REGISTRATION  
  3.1 Entrée Fee  
 
3.1.1 Pairs (140k’s endurance adventure racing)
Mixed pairs and open categories can enter at R1200/pair.
 
  3.1.2 Relay Teams  
 
Teams of 4 people will trail run, mountain bike, and paddle in pairs. Entrée fee @ R2000 per relay team. A well-deserved breakfast is served at the awards ceremony the Sunday morning at Glenwood House to all the athletes. The support crew can buy a breakfast at R30p/p

3.5 Event registration VENUE to receive race numbers and goodie bags before start on the 29th of October 2009 before 20H00. Late registration on the 30th of October from 03H00 to 04H00 at the SAASVELD Main gate.

  5. SUPPORT Crew.  
 
All relay teams and pairs will need support crew to transport bikes and or paddle craft to transition areas. Teams must be able to support themselves in terms of supplements and food/water intake. No pollution will be allowed.
 
     
  6. OVERNIGHT Accomodation  
  All accommodation must be booked via George Tourism on www.visitgeorge.co.za We include a camping fee of R100pp for team members in the event entrée fee. Overnigh stay for more than R100pp is extra and must be paid by the athletes themselves towards George tourism. All support crew must pay their own fees also.
