45 or 100km of MOUNTAIN BIKING
1. WELCOME at the ROCK PEDAL CLASSIC Race Village
I remembered years ago that the first “On the Rocks Steak” was served by SPUR. We rock this year with hot off the press news about the RPC. SPUR support us in the bike event that take us around Cradock Peak, starting and ending at Saasveld. If you finish, you’ll walk away with a packed goodie bag and a SPUR burger and chips. We welcome you at this annual event.
Exciting news is that Erik Kleinhans and wife Ariane of Team CONTEGO (Second in the mixed category of the EPIC, and winners RIDE the RHINO and the CAPE Pioneer Trek), will take part in the Rock Pedal Classic. Erik is one of the local stars of the Southern Cape and he supports the effort of local sport initiatives. There are quite a lot of professional cyclist, living and training in the Southern Cape, so we might enjoy great cycling during the RPC.

2. CYCLING the ROCK
Cycling around CRADOCK Peak has become known as the challenge around the rock. It is the vision of 24-7 Adventure, a Southern Cape based events company to present an event for local mountain biking enthusiasts that offers a great route, value for money and a great experience. This is not possible without the local support of SPUR, Coimbra, SAN Parks, MTO Forestry, Saasveld (NMMU, George), Rubberman, Tippaton and the Hilbillies Club George, Tracks 4 Africa and EMO for Medical Backup.
The combination of terrain is another point of attraction. Cyclists will bike on forest single track, a great climb into Montagu pass, some very nice flat sections in the Klein Karoo towards Louvain and technical climbs and downhills at the Voortrekker Pass. We will spoil the racers with nice windy routes around Hoekville and to finish the day off, 3 climbs till you end at Saasveld. The total distance is 100km and about 2000m of climbing in total can be expected. Below you will see the 100km route profile.
