It is with regret that I must announce that the FOREST Run 2012 is been cancelled.

1.    INTRODUCTION

The FOREST  TRAiL Run happens on the  27-29 of April 2012,

…one forest, a mountain…lot’s of trees and you…

This is 3 days of SOLO trail running in a dream world to be discovered within the forests of SAN Parks, Garden Route. BE  @ THE  FOREST  TRAIL  RUN PRIZE GIVING… we offer R10 000 in prize money to be handed out.

  • A trail run packed with adventure.
  • 100km of SOLO FOREST trail running over 3 days.

  • Fully catered, 3 meals a day experience including endorphins as part of the menu.
  • Experience the KNYSNA FOREST
  • Average temperatures of 20 -25º C  and 80mm rain/month…so it can be WET!

1.1.        Entrée Fee R2450p/p up to the 23rd of APRIL 2012. You can enter online by following the link and get registered! Late entries after the 23rd  of APRIL 2012 will not receive goodie bags  No late entries after Monday the 23rd of April 2012!

1.2.        REGISTRATION on the 26th of April from 16H00 to 20H00 at SAASVELD, NMMU Campus Georg (S33’57.28.66 & E2231.51.39)’. Follow the route signs to the START VENUE, 

1.3.        TRANSPORT. You will not need a car or transport during the event. All luggage and equipment will be stowed and transported to the next race village. Clearly mark your bags! The START on DAY 1 is 08H00 at Herold Wines. The busses depart from Saasveld at 06H30. Your race fee includes this transport! DAY 2 departs from SAASVELD once again and DAY 3, STARTS in the Race Village at MILLWOOD.

1.4.        OVERNIGHT. Prepare yourself for camping in small tents in the RACE Village. Bring a sleeping bag for the overnight! Your matrass is inside your tent already!

1.5.        TRANSPORT from END to SAASVELD and GEORGE Airport. The end venue is 30km from KNYSNA at DIEPWALLE. A bus will transport you to SAASVELD from DIEPWALLE for an extra fee. The bus departs @ 14H00 for SAASVELD and GEORGE Airport. Arrival at Saasveld will be @ 15H15. The airport arrival will be 16H00, Sunday afternoon. The SAA Flight depart 17H00 and the Kulula Flight depart 18H55 from GEORGE for Jhb (As quoted in November 2011).

2.    RACE ROUTE & LOGISTICS

2.1.        The STAGES

DAY 1.          START on day 1 is 08H00 at Herold Wines. The busses depart from Saasveld at 06H30. Your race fee includes this transport! It will be a distance of 20km of the Outeniqua mountains and you.  Athletes will start behind Cradock peak at Harold Wines and run downhill towards George and Saasveld. Most of the day is single track running.

DAY 2.         START on day 2 is 08H00 at Beervlei Hut. The busses depart from Saasveld at 06H30. Your race fee includes this transport! 41.5km of forest and small rivers up to the Knysna River. We start at Beervlei and run to Millwood  via the FOREST, the HOMTINI River and the GOUDVELD area of JUBILEE Creek. This is ecstatic area to run in!

DAY 3.       The  26km go down into the Knysna river and then follows the highroad from Millwood to Diepwalle over Jonkersberg.

1.    EQUIPMENT LIST

3.1 Equipment per athlete must be available if we decide upon it because of the weather.

  • BACKPACK for the duration of the event!
  • 1 LITRE FLUID CONTAINER
  • LIGHT
  • EMERGENCY FOOD SUPPLY

(THIS SHOULD BE SUFFICIENT FOR 24 HOURS AND IS NOT INTENDED FOR CONSUMPTION DURING THE LEG BEING RACED)

  • WHISTLE
  • WATERPROOF top
  • WATERPROOF pants
  • SECOND LAYER

6.2 EXTRA Equipment.

  • COMPASS and Cell phone plus small camera if you don’t have a cell phone with a camera
  • KNIFE
  • FIRST AID KIT
  • 1 Space blanket/Biffy for every 2 persons
  • 1 sleeping bag per person

2.    LOGISTICS

2.1.        Transport

Transport to the START of Day1 and from the FINISH at Diepwalle is included in the fee.

2.2.        Overnight

The overnight is camping. We provide a waterproof tent and matrass.

2.3.        Meals

All the meals are included.

2.4.        Race village

The race village is at SAASVELD, NMMU Campus George for the First and second night. The last night is at Millwood.

2.5.        Medical backup

There will be an official medical crew on standby.

2.6.        Media

Jacques Marais will do all written and digital media

2.7.        Timing

It’s a watch and a laptop…

2.8.        Security & Cell Phones

We secure your personal stuff…nothing is as safe as with yourself, but we will look after all your personal belongings.
